Direct Variation. A linear function of the form y = kx, for some constant k, called the constant of variation.

Constant of Variation. In a direct variation between y and x, it is the coefficient of x, usually denoted by the letter k. In an inverse variation it is the product of the two variables.

Constant of Proportionality. When two quantities or variables are proportional, the constant term that scales one variable to the other.
