Topic
Geometry Basics
Definition
A straight line around which a body or geometric object rotates or may be conceived to rotate.
Description
The axis in geometry refers to a straight line around which an object rotates or is symmetrically arranged. This concept is fundamental in understanding rotational symmetry and the properties of geometric shapes. For example, the Earth rotates around its axis, which is an imaginary line passing through the North and South Poles. In mathematics, the axis is used to describe the symmetry of shapes and to solve problems related to rotations and reflections.
A spinning top has an axis of rotation.
