A polygon is a closed figure on a plane with straight sides and vertices. here is an example of a polygon.

A triangle is a polygon with three sides and three angles. The word "triangle" literaly means "three angles."

A regular polygon has five congruent sides and five congruent angles. Below you see a regular pentagon. Notice that all sides are congruent and each interior angle measures 108°.

The formula for finding the sum of the interior angles of a polygon is based on partitioning a polygon into triangles from a given vertex.
