Finding the nth Term Of an Arithmetic Sequence: Example 7
Topic
Sequences and Series
Description
General Approach
For an arithmetic sequence, the nth term formula is given by: an = a1 + d•( n − 1 ), where: a1 is the first term of the sequence, d is the common difference between consecutive terms, and n is the term number.
Given Sequence
Sequence: [14, 18, 22, 26, 30]
Formula: an = 14 + 4(n - 1)
45th term: 190
To find the formula:
- First term (a₁) = 14
- Common difference (d) = 18 - 14 = 4
- Use the formula: an = a1 + (n-1)d
