Identify the Variable
Before you can start solving equations, it's important to first identify the variable. In one step equations, the variable will often stand out and be easy to spot. It's essentially what you're trying to find or figure out in the equation. In order to solve this equation, you must isolate the variable on one side of the equation so that it can be solved.
Check Your Work by Substituting in the Solution and Seeing if it Results in a True Statement
When the equations get a bit more complicated, it's always helpful to double-check your work by substituting in the solution and seeing if it results in a true statement. Once you have solved for "x," plug that value into the equation and simplify each side to see if they are equal. If they are, then you know the solution is correct!
